8n external hydraulic cylinder control

I have a 1950 8n, and i have no clue
how to use the external hydraulic
cylinder controls or how to activate
it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

See tip # 39 to get the manuals you will need. You have a 60+ year old tractor; you need the manuals.

But before we can help you, you will need to better define " external hydraulic cylinder controls ".

Does your tractor have an auxiliary hydraulic pump? A loader?

Or is it totally original and you can't figure out how to get the 3-point lift to work?

There is no way to easily run a remote cylinder with the 8N hydraulics. A quick and dirty solution for controlling one or more single acting cylinders:
  • [*:76d0c25242]Remove the plug in the hydraulic test port - its located on the front right corner of the base of the hydraulic pump - and connect a hydraulic hose to the port. The port thread is 1/2-20 UNF and requires a special adapter fitting.[*:76d0c25242]Connect the other end of the hose to your cylinder[*:76d0c25242]Chain the lift arms down[*:76d0c25242]Raising the 3pt control will now extend the cylinder. Lowering the 3pt control will allow gravity to retract he cylinder.[/list:eek::76d0c25242]If you need to control a double acting cylinder or need the use of the 3pt in addition to the cylinder you will have to modify the hydraulic system and/or add an external hydraulic pump and control valve.

Your 8N isn't going run that disc, let alone pull it easily.

Thats not my disc, its one i pulled off the internet. Here is the hydraulic line pics. I need to move a 10 foot off a trailer while my other tractor is being fixed and it just needs to be set down off the bad tires.

Chain down the two lift arms like TOH said. I do it all the time to run a front end loader. You will only have power to extend a ram, not retract it.

You have a male quick connect tip on the end of the pipe. You will need to get a matching female coupler body to connect your cylinder to it. Similar to an air hose quick connect but made specifically for hydraulics.

Your setup is actually backwards and you might want to consider reversing it. The more expensive female body is usually permanently mounted to the tractor and the less expensive tips are put on the ends of the implement hoses.

Ok thanks. So after i connect the hydraulic hose to the tractor, moving the lever that controls the 3pt should raise and lower the remote cylinder right?

Only after you chain down the lift arms.
