hydraulic cylinder

I purchased a new hydraulic cylinder and proceeded to put it in today and the top cover would not line up the bolt holes. I believe that the new cylinder is bigger that the old one therefore it is hitting somewhere under the top cover and it is not seating properly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

We need much more info please. 9N/2N or 8N Model? The systems, cylinders, and top covers are different. The linkages are important. The 8N Control Rod must be inserted correctly, the 9N/2N wishbone linkage has to be disconnected prior to pulling the top cover or you will break it. I doubt if the cylinder is at fault, however, the 8N cylinder must have the scalloped relief area at the bottom front side to clear the control rod movement from POSITION to DRAFT control. Not all new cylinders sold toady come with relief machined out. It isn't required for a 9N or 2N system and won't hurt if it is, but on an 8N it is very necessary. When assembling the top cover on an 8N, you need to proceed with caution, and reach in from the side inspection hole to align the Control Rod before properly seating the top cover in place. I wrote an article on how repair the hydraulics -my email is open and I will direct you to a place where you can see it and download it for FREE.

How did the paint/look for contact areas that I recommended two days ago work out?
