8n sleeve tool

An aside. I offered a sleeve driver on here, got the $$ and sent it off, the postage was higher than anticipated, but what the hey - helping a guy out - never got a reply or a thank you - odd.

Mike........how do you know you have sleeves? You may still have the original diameter cylinder block, well worn after 60-years. Didja "mike" the cylinder? 2nd, there are 2-kinds of sleeves: the 0.040 sheetmetal sleeve, you peel out witha screwdriver ...or... the more better castiron 0.090 sleeve. Generally, you re-bore the castiron sleeve outta the block and install NEW castiron sleeves. ...or... iff'n you have an arc-welder, 3-beads of weld will shrink the sleeve and will drop right outta the block. I like to use "dry-ice" chips to shrink the sleeve fer eazier installation.........HTH, the amazed Dell

You may come out ahead of the game by taking it to a good machine shop. Have them check it out for you and machine the old existing sleeves really thin and just folding them out rather than beating and banging them out. Then they can measure the hole and if needed bore it out for the .090 sleeves or just press new ones in for you.

Thanks dell

Yes they are def .090 sleeves. I measured them as best I could while they were still in the block. The old hokie is sending me something to get them out with. Thanks again for the info.

While we are on the subject , they make .040 , .040 / .005 oversized , .050 , .090 , .090 / .005 oversized , and even more sizes in the automotive style .

Kind of like main / rod bearings . Unless you want to eat a few sets it is best to wait until all of the cleaning and machine work is done .
