Orange spark

Ive got a 8n with front mount distributor. It was running fine until i pulled carb and distributor off to put on a 2n im rebuilding just to get it running. The 2n ran for a bit then quit. I put everything back on mine and nothing, after checking a few things i got it running, kinda. It would idle smooth and run smooth at half idle. Three quarter and up to full it sputters and pops. Figured i picked up trash so i pulled carb apart and cleaned. Still same. I went ahead and replaced coil, points, and condensor, again just to make sure i didnt burn them up or something. Cap is new and so are plugs. It is a 6 volt system. Wires are decent. Points are gapped at 16. After all this still the same. Bought a new carb and still the same. The spark im getting is orange and not blueish white.

The "color" of the spark is pretty subjective, and basically meaningless.

Check it with an adjustable gap spark checker or a spare sparkplug with a gap of 3/16" and if it jumps that you have a HOT spark, and spark isn't your issue.

IMHO, blindly swapping out all sorts of parts that MAY have been perfectly good and OEM, or at least US made for new ones from "The Land of Almost Right" is not always the best plan.

Ok ill try that this weekend. Thanks. Like i said it runs great up until 3/4 throttle then sputters and pops. I did a complete rebuild on it 2 months ago and it was running great until i put carb and distributor on the other one just to break in the new motor in it

I prefer to see a blue spark jump a decent gap. How long was "ran for a bit"? That is important. At this point it is either fuel or spark. Don't assume the spark is good or you have sufficient fuel delivery to the carb unless this is verified. Fuel delivery to the carb is easily verified by removing the plug at the bottom and letting a quart out into a jar. It should come out like it was coming out of a straw.

I ran it for about 5 minutes showing it to a guy going to buy it. After je left i tried starting it back up to put in garage and nothing. Pulled everything off and put back on mine and still nothing. Thats when i replaced everything. Full delivery is good. Firing order ive checked several times. Its surely got me puzzled.

Hazmatt516........while the "offical" specs fer the weird 4-nipple front mount points is 0.015 (0.016 is close enuff) Yer description of sputtering and popping at 3/4-throttle is LEAN carbie. Learn how to adjust yer carbie. Set the down-pointing mainjet to 2-turns and LEAVITT!!! Adjust the side-pointing idlemix fer FASTEST idle, NOT SMOOTHEST idle. Understand the difference??? Shuld be about 1/8-1/4 turn. Simple, eh?.......HTH, the amazed Dell

With that description I'm leaning toward spark. If your battery is good, I'm assuming it cranks but has no spark, turn on the key switch and check for power to the coil.
