Two 8N parts tractors equal how many? (pics)

Bought this one as a non-runner with a Hupp step up.

This one was also a non-runner when I bought it. The engine now
runs very well, but the clutch was badly stuck to the flywheel.

I tore the first one all apart to use for parts but since I had to
take the second one's engine out to replace the clutch, I decided
to put the formerly non-running engine from #1 into #2 and
see how it went. Runs surprisingly well, 3 pt and PTO work,
12V conversion was already on it with an original loop ammeter.

Many parts got swapped all over the place The new (paper stickers
still on) tires and rims from #2 went on my 3000 cab tractor.

The engine from #2 will go in my other 8N while I rebuild its
current engine to eliminate a little smoke and low hot idle oil
pressure. The rear end, hydraulics and rims/tires have already
helped out several local guys with stuff they needed.

Then I'm still left with this one as the end result of parts
swapping. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but its alive.

I didn't know that you knew how to work on tractors!!???
I thought that you were just an ex- Navy Twiggit, that worked on gig-eating computers!!! LMAO

You do good work........Yes?????

I've downsized on the computers Gary.
Previous employer had me working on 22,000 at a time.
Now I'm down to reasonable level so I can work on tractors too.

Ex-Navy Twiggit? Guilt as charged I guess. I spent an awful
lot of hours in the bilges to be "just" a Twiggit though! :)

Gotta love those beefy tires on an N, Lol.

Think I may need to do a clutch on the 961 this summer. The other tractors will start to get used again. ;)

That's a pricey clutch Andy. Especially to do it right.
If it were me, I'd do it all while I was in there.
Cuz I'm lazy like that and don't want to do it twice! ;)

I've had clutches stuck that bad where you needed a hammer and
scrapper to get them off piece by piece.
With all the switching going on I lost track of the hupp. Did that
make it into a runner? Does it operate as should? Step up or
combo?
Sounds like you've been busy and you did this all in one day
right?

Kirk

my favorite part of the hobby...swapping tires and parts so the best always stay with me.
Doesn't cost anything but time and work...well, I guess I can't really call it work since I enjoy it.

course, ya can take it too far...have a very late 8N with broken trans gears...had another trans but didn't want to give up the late 'bulge case' on the late one. ok...swap every single part inside between the 2 transmissions...

got so tired of re-painting swapped wheels, that all my Fords wear white painted wheels now....still doesn't help when I swap between my Fords and JD's though..LOL

Ha
Looks like fun Royse. And now you have parts
to sell plus some spares for your own stuff.
I assume You saw my post on the other board
about using the boom pole. We just did about
the same thing as this with a pair of newer
models.
Btw, is there a stove and fridge in that cab
tractor?
It looks big enough to camp out in :)

Two is a good start. I have got three. One with the Sherman step up and a loose Sherman combo around here
somewhere. One set of 1/2 worn rear tires and some top curled Ford script fenders and a dented script hood to
match. Maybe some time I will get busy and see if I can make a runner. One engine froze, one no oil pressure and
one basket case. No time soon. Too many other pans in the fire.
Ciao!

The Hupp is a step-up Kirk. The handle looked like a Dual-drive
but it has been replaced. The Hupp and the 8N transmission it
came in are setting on a roll around cart in the shop.

Once I'm done with my engine rebuild, I will have enough
spare parts to put together another 8N. It will be a side
mount with the Hupp in it unless I sell the parts first.

Did it all in one day? Nah, I think I'm getting old.
I took the first tractor apart in one day. The day after it came
home. Took the new tires off #2 when that tractor got here.
Disassembly of the second one to swap engines and change the
clutch started Saturday and I didn't get it running until Monday.
But I did host a birthday party on Sunday, so that's my excuse! ;)

"It looks big enough to camp out in"

It looks a lot larger than it is. There's very little room in there.
Which is good in some ways. It warms up very quickly when
plowing snow, for example.
It is about 6 inches too tall to fit through my 7 foot overhead
doors so I have to open the slider to get it in the shop.
I'm thinking of replacing one of my 7 footers with an 8 foot.
In my spare time of course. :)
