2N PTO grinding

Have had this 1946 2N for years Probably about 20 years ago it started to develop a grinding noise that you can feel
threw the whole tractor while brush hogging in very thick grass or if you would bottom out. Threw the years it has
gotten more sensitive. This year I decided to check into it since I have a couple of back up tractors.

Anyway I dropped the hydraulic pump to take the Counter Shaft Bearing Support thinking that the Hub on the end of
the countershaft and the Sleeve on the inside the Countershaft Support. Well none of those teeth are damaged. So
now the only thing I can think of that the Countershaft Gear (the one that runs off the input shaft) is bad. Probably
chewed up splines on the shaft and inside the gear.

Any thoughts before I go ahead and dig deeper?

P.S. When pulling heavy loads with just tractor never and kind of noises. Only when brush hogging and PTO is in
gear.
