Hi everybody. I would like to thank you for your help in advance.

Please help me identifying this tractor Model, Year, Type and anything else you would like to add.

Serial Number is (a diamond) 167974 (another diamond.

Above the serial number are three numbers 631

Also the three point hydraulics have not been used for many years and the fluid is milky brown. I put compressed air into the dipstick hole and no luck. Any suggestions? Also how do I drain the hydraulic fluid?

Can I add images to this post I'm new to this.

Thanks

Juan

Juan........welcome to the world of N-tractors. Heres a quicky to help ID yer N-tractor. 9N/2N's had 3-speed trannys, 8N's had 4-speed trannys. Engines are 6-volt positive (+) ground 4-cyl low horsepower flatheads that kenn have 2-types of dizzys. 4-nipple frontmount (points = 0.015) or 5-nipple sidemount (points = 0.025) Engine takes 6-qts of 30wt oil and tranny takes 5-gal of 90wt gear oil. Drain yer WATER contaminated tranny oil at the diffy plug. Squander $25 (cheap) fer the I&T FO-4 manual. John Smith's site has excellent "how-to's"........HTH, Dell

Your 631 would be a 1962. The series would be a 601 workmaster. It would have come from the factory without a PTO, proofmeter, or tool box. All could have been added
at the dealer or by previous owner. The 601 series are good little tractors to get most of the farm chores done and they are easier on the gas then there 801 big
brother. Here is a photo of my 631 for reference.

Also drain out hydraulic fluid from bottom and replace at plug under the seat. Once replaced there is a plug on the pump, usually an allen bolt head, open slightly, but do not remove, with engine running or cranking Air bubble should come out, once oil flows and no air bubbles tight up bolt.

Your 631 is a beauty all right but I'm puzzled. Why would a tractor (especially one called a workmaster) come without a PTO? Is a factory installed PTO that expensive that people would want to order a tractor without it? It just seems that it really cuts down on the usefulness of a tractor.

Yea don't make sense to me to by a tractor without it. You could
order a basic model like the 621 without a 3pt or PTO, maybe to
use with a backhoe/loader or if a golf course was still dragging
the reel mowers around but for the most part you don't see many
without the 3pt and pto.
Kind of like when the power steering came out in '57 a lot of
farmers didn't spend the money and at the time was pretty cheap as
a factory option.
