For the price of an N and a clutch...

This is a great tractor.
Only has the 4 speed and the loader has been patched up.
Still, it looks like it comes with the box blade = $400+ , has most of a set of pie weights = $500+. Has power steering too.
This is basically a 3000 with a very heavy, non adjustable front axle designed for loader work.
PS, Judging by the louvered hood it is probably a 66, not a 76 as stated.

Nashranch,
Great tractor.
Yours had an even heavier front axle than
a 3400. Those were also built on the 3000
platform but were superceded by the 3550s
which used the same front end and steering
but were built on the 4000 platform.
I just bought a part you may recognise -
the steering arm from one of those.
Am building a 'new' tractor here.
Will be built on a 4000D chassis with the
same front axle as yours but upgraded
power steering.
This will be my first hardnose. The
radiator shroud is off a 545.

I always figure there are a lot of folks
here like me who started out with an N but
soon realized that it would not be enough
tractor for my purposes. I never followed
the Ford board as there were just too many
models I knew nothing about and it seemed
like too much to learn to even get started
over there.
It was the posts here about Jubilees,
Hundreds and Thousands that picqued my
interest in the later models and got me
started.
I wouldn't think about posting here about
say, a 5000 or larger. But something like
a 3400 is a great upgrade from an N. Not
too big and not too complicated for the
average N owner. It was advice here from
people I'd learned to trust that pointed
me in the right direction.

Thats why I've got an N and a 3400 :) that way I'm still "allowed" on here.... Hee hee hee

I agree, for the price if you can get yourself to spend a little more than a really clean jube you'll have more than enough machine. If you have to pay someone to put the clutch in it's not as good of a deal.

I know of two of those front ends I am sure I could get one for FREE... Would you upgrade a 300o to one of them if it were you...
No loader on my 3K any more but someday I need to go after the spindles..

If you don't plan to put a loader on it I
see no advantage to switching. I had one on
my 3000 for about two years.
Was going to put a loader on it but ended up
not doing it. So I went back to an ag front
end.
I used the cast iron pan that goes with it.
It does make your wheelbase about 5" longer
and raises the front end a couple/few
inches. It's a pretty easy change out.
They are a direct, bolt on swap if you get
the whole package as shown in the photo
except the tie rod ends on the end of your
steering cylinders need to be changed.
I have one here that I should get off my
backside and sell one of these days.

Hello Mike.
Good to see you.
I actually thought of you as I was writing
my reply to R Geiger. You are one from this
board who upgraded to this very same model.
How is yours running now? How's the new
engine?
I seem to remember you were having some
carb? problems with it but will assume you
got it straightened out or we would have
seen you more on the Ford board.
Have you any regrets about upgrading?

Well I am still not used to the 8speed, I prefer 2nd and reverse on my 9n! Low reverse on the 3400 is too slow and in hi range I have to slip the clutch. 20 hours (as of Thurs) on the new motor and I think that stupid Holley's accel piston is sticking again!

The PS is great and the loader (776a) I fit on are mighty handy. Picked up some rear weights that I need to make mounting pucks for (28" inner wheel half rings, unless someone has the other 7 that I'm missing).
