oil pump priming

While I am waiting on my parts to come in I lapped the oil pump cover and checked out the gears and bushing. How do you guys prime the system just fill the pump cavity with grease and spin it over with the plugs out before you fire it up.

Most people here respond with - remove the front plug and pressure relief valve and pour in oil there . It runs down to the pump .

I prefer to remove the oil pan plug and slip a piece of hose over the pick up tube end . With a funnel on the other end held higher than the motor . Fill with oil and spin the motor .

I had an old N that would lose prime overnight . I replaced the oil canister drain plug with an air valve fitting like a valve stem . Before I would start the motor I would grab an air hose and blow oil backwards through the oiling system . Enough oil found its way back to the pump to prime it .
