Duane Eddy's Band on Tractors

The rumblin' of the diesel
the shifting of the gears
all of this is music
to the drivers ears
Cannonball!

IIRC, the short lived 50s TV series featured a Cabover GMC.

Dean,

While we're on Memory Lane . . .
My hands down, in my top ten all time Country hits
isn't Hank Williams doing "Long Gone Lonesome Blues"
It's Hank Junior doing his old man's song!
That was such a giant hit
And stands the test of time!!

Talk about making a great song way better
And his own son.

I have that on a 45 as well.
It's on a yellow MGM label
Orchestration both sides: BILL McELHINEY
Flip side: Doesn't Anybody Know My Name.'

I used to sing that Hank Jr version when I was back in the bush fishing. Scare the bears! :D

Tee Man-
One of my all time faves -the king of twang guitar, Duane Eddy. Playing his signature GRETSCGH CHET ATKINS Model guitar too. Dick Clark must have been a 21 year old in this. I'd suspect though the clip is filmed outdoors in a parking lot so they could get the tractors in it, look closely and you can see neither Duane nor the bass player is plugged into an amplifier. That leads me to believe it was lip-synced as most shows like this were back then -very few were ever done with a live band. Note the drummer is only using a floor tom-tom too. Thanks, never saw this before...Duane is 79 and one of the few true rock icons from the 50's still with us...

I also have always liked Brian Setzer and the Stray Cats doing their tribute to Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran on Letterman...

Hey Tim,

Ya, lots of lip-syncin' in those days and most of us were too clueless to catch on. :)

I'm thinking that maybe Duane grew up on a farm.
I like that there was so much crossover Country in those days -- Rock/Country fusion which is really roots rockabilly.

One Dick Clark video that blew me away is this one of Jimmy Jones singing one of my favorites, "Handiman".
I liked "Good Timin" the most of all his songs.
What blew me away was that my second car ever and my favorite car to this day and the only sports car I can fit in, the 1960 TR3, is on stage with him in the video.
