Pin stitching

How effective is pin stitching? Floor sweeper at work has a cracked head--
head shop called me today and said he was able to fix it with pin
stitching. This thing has a ford engine-I think he said a 1.3 and head to
just replace the cracked one is hard to find..Sweeper runs on LP..Read a
little about pin stitching but don't really understand how its done..Reckon
it will Hold Up??

Tom,Yes that head for that Tennant 1.3 is getting hard to find.So repair with lock and stitch would be the way to go as they were hard to find about 8 years ago.It probably also needs the valve seats and valves replaced because the valves really wear down into the head, running on LP.I've been there before a couple times, didn't replace the valves and seats the first go round just ground them then it only lasted a couple years till the valves and seats needed replaced because of dropping into the head and constantly having to adjust the to tight valves at every oil change.

Thanks Den-Tennant sweeper is exactly what it is..I will be sure the head shop replaces the valves-have had them do work before and they do good work.Been a long time since I adjusted valves--I will need a crash course on how to set them-initial setting etc..I have no shop manual on this sweeper. Thanks for your help.
