Grease for Distributor Cam Surface

Went to our local parts store to buy some grease for the distributor cam on my 8N. Got the deer in the headlight look so I thought I better ask here what is the correct grease.
I have some high temperature drum/disk break grease. Would this be ok or should I get a different grease ?
Many Thanks for any help you can give me.

One of the "old standbys" was Standard Ignition SL-2, if you want the real stuff.

IMHO, a little dab of high-temp wheel bearing grease works, as well.

One of my long time favorites for a lot of applications, including using it to lube the little felt block that rides the cam on some points is Sil-Glyde, silicone grease. It's compatible with rubber and plastic as well.

I use plumber's grease.
Comes in a small tube that you can buy at any home center or hardware store.
It's heat resistant.
It's also water proof so if your tractor ever gets submerged it won't wash off :)

Sometimes it comes with the points. High temp grease is better than no grease and I don't know the requirement for that grease, but I do know if you buy the tube you'll never have to buy another one. Older parts houses usually carry it. Ask the older guys.

With Tall T. Have had the same 4 oz tube of silglyde for 35 yrs. About $4. Use it on brake adjusters too. Just bought an AR, use it on the bolt carrier. A little bit goes a long way.

I use Napa ML1.

I've had the tube ? 15ys now.

Silicone grease usually works, ( son plumbers valve grease and crossbow glide grease, and some clear dielectric greases )

RESLLS,

Same here! About 25 years into my second tube. :)
I like the fact that it is has that nice orange color that makes it visible.

I use nev'r Seize on brake adjusters but I'll keep that in mind.

Any hydraulic brake systems of mine are silicone so I use Sil-Glyde a lot and very liberally just behind the wheel cylinder dust covers. After 30 years of not re-doing the silicone brakes on my '51 Chev van, I peeled back the dust covers, cleaned out any crud, coated them up with the stuff and just popped the covers back on. :)

Great stuff,
T
