8N STEERING BOX GRINDING

I am very confused

There has been noise in my steering for a short time.
Additionally, steering has become increasing harder.

Knowing what the internals of the box look like, I would guess that I have an errant piece of metal being grinded.
I disconnected the steering arms...steering wheel spun freely.
I rotated each front wheel by hand--no resistance.

Re attached linkage--steering now appears normal!!

What's up with that? :?:

absolutely--I've been taking care of 2 1950's Kaisers, 2 1970/80's Wheel Horses, chainsaws, blowers and power washes for decades.

Turn your steering wheel while checking to see if the shaft and steering wheel goes up and down a
little. If you have any vertical motion there, the upper bearing on the worm shaft is worn out.
This is very common on 8N's. That bearing sits above the oil level and wears/rusts from lack of
lubrication
