I am a out in the shop or fixing something around the place like most here do.
TV is a last resort at best here, but I caught a Nat geo spot while in the
house about origins of man and love to find arrowheads and stone tools and this
had a part during the stone age so I stayed. Commercial
comes on and its about motor oil, I had posted an oil statement today and even
I could not believe this commercial---------Mobil now says they have a once a
year oil change product all I heard was the once a year and missed the small
print as to do's and don't of the 1 yr. deal. I am sure to some I am way behind
on this but first I seen it. Just passing it on

I saw that add also and like you I did not pay close attention to any other details. Just that is stated one year oil change.

"I saw that add also and like you I did not pay close attention to any other details."

I think that's what advertisers depend on.
"All I heard was that I don't have to change my oil for a year."
Advertisers for oil companies that really work for engine sellers?

I'm of the opinion that oil is cheap compared to a new/rebuilt engine.
My biggest hassle is getting the used oil to the recycle center.
Maybe I should set up a plumbing system like some of the
Maple sap collectors use and run a pipe all the way there. ;)

Right from their site.

Proven protection for 1 full year*

*Or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Get a waste oil heater for one of your shops. And by the way I only looked up when I heard 1 yr. So here we are talking about it and thats all they need to get guys to talking about and it will sell.

But they got your attention and thats all they needed to do you will now watch
out for it on TV.

So it will safely go 15 months 25K. It would make a oil change to eternity on a
small tractor. LOL

I had a co-worker that bought a mini-van with about 80,000 miles on it. He drove over 170 miles a day back a forth to work. Even when he bought the van, it used a little oil. He drove that for several years without "changing" the oil. He would just add a little in every now and then. The timing chain let go at 322,000 miles. He said it had the same oil filter on it as when he bought it with 80,000 on it.

That has been out for many many years. It was originally targeted to heavy trucks that run many miles without frequent cool downs. I believe that the recommendation was 100,000 miles. The person responsible for the truck would take samples something like every 10,000 miles and send them to the oil company for testing, so that the condition of the oil was monitored. Additives were renewed periodically and filters changed of course.

WW, I do not think you can mention any subject on this forum that will get you as much discussion as type and brand of oil to use.

I do not drive my old tractor much during the year to merit an oil change,

but as it sets in the barn I guess moisture can collect inside the crankcase and I want to get the dirt out of the oil. So I change the oil at least once a year,
Shell rotella 15w40 diesel oil in a gas engine,
Napa filters

so far the old tractor starts and runs good, maintains a good oil pressure, will keep up that routine,

I did change out the transmission/differential oil 2 years ago, now that oil change was a bit more expensive.

I also washed out, cleaned the old air filter tower with kerosene a few years ago, that thing probably had never been washed out, was very dirty,

you have to take care of them if they are going to last.

99 unless you really just want something to do and you choose to change your oil as a pass time may I suggest start and drive your tractor around every 3 to 4 weeks and bring it up to operating temp and let it run for 10 or 12 mins. The moisture in the sump will vent out the oil filler spout and your seals and gaskets wont dry out and leak.
