I know it is a "safety" thing but how is a person suppose to cut grass if the blade turns off when you go to reverse? Bought new 50" 24 hp CC yesterday and have not figured out how to disconnect this yet...Had the same problem in 91 when I bought the one I am replacing now..it was easy to find the switch and remove it from the system but this has the hydro foot pedal and I have not found the Magic switch yet...I understand their intent and assume all brands have this NUT you cant cut grass like this..Who, how, where can I get a clue or two on where this aggravating switch is located??Felt under where the reverse pedal is located and have had no luck finding a wire or anything yet...Can anyone tell me anything..Might be the reason another one was sitting there that had been returned..If I cant solve this problem they will have two used ones sitting there...Thanks for any suggestions--I am not asking you to tell me to disconnect it-I am telling u I am going to disconnect it so it can be a useful piece of equipment..

Tom, I was going to suggest you post this over on the Garden Tractor site, but see you already have. Don't have an answer for you, but having this feature doesn't seem like it is much needed as a safety feature and more of a nuisance. Can't understand a need for such a feature. Don't believe anyone would back up and not look to see where they were going. If I had one like that I would be inclined, as you are, to disconnect it as soon as I could. Glad I've got a Cub 125 and a 147. They have been excellent machines and as old as they are, I would not trade either for anything new.

Kubota bills it as as KRA - Kubota Reverse Awareness. I disabled it and the seat switch within an hour of owning the machine. I don't even remember where it was on the Kubota - found the KRA switch location by looking in the workshop manual - possibly on the pedal....

My JD mower has a button you can push on the dash when reversing so that the motor does not shut off.

My Kubota has a similar button but it is momentary - you have to push it EVERY time and you have to holed it down. Sort of defeats the convenience of a hydrostatic transmission. Now that you remind me I may have jumpered that switch so it is always "pushed".

Are you sure there isn't a key switch position that allows you to reverse with the deck running.

mine has a position on the key switch so I can mow in reverse...........after I start the thing I TURN YHE KEY BACK ONE CLICK FOR FORWARD AND REVERSE MOWING WITH OUT KILLING THE ENGINE

Mike OH, unfortunately, that's not true. [b:d2f909857d]Here's[/b:d2f909857d] just one example.
I remember seeing several incidents like this last year.
Knowing I by-passed a safety feature allowing this to happen
to one of my kids/grandkids would put me over the edge.

I use a Zero Turn that doesn't need to back up.

My sister's lawnmower is like Tom is describing and its 10+ years
old. Nothing new. She just goes around to avoid backing up.

Will check--son unloaded it and made 100 ft loop and put it in the
shed..Major eye problems makes reading tje "manual" a chore for me and now
it is printed on recycled brownish paper so that helps too..Will check
button is better than nothingTks

You're absolutely right. I would feel the same way too. However, even if the blade is not turning, backing into or over something would be bad. Pays to look where you are going before moving either direction; blade rotating or not.

Thanks everyone-looks like it does have the magic F and W button to be able to cut in reverse..too late and too much trouble to get it out and try it tonite--Tks again..

The last one I brought the salesman tried to tell me how to bypass it but I would have nuttin to do with a bypass as my kids were going to use it. After the kids flew the nest I found the relay and jumped it... In 1964 I got my foot under a rider and I paid the price and will till I have been cooked at my passing... I did bypass the seat switch on my new bota tho but don't tell anyone  If I were to let a kid operate it I would clip the zip-tie I tied the switch down with

Others advised and I looked--looks like it has the magic button on the
dash to allow mowing F and R--I wont own one that wont cut in
reverse..Its in a shed with other mowers, edger etc so just didnt have
the getupandgo to get it out today and try it...but I'm satisfied it does
have the key position and button to let it mow in reverse--so glad--Not a
good weekend so didnt want to fight with Home depot to return it--
Yesterday looked at Toyota truck-salesman told me straightforward that he
would call me back in a few minutes--he never called---I do not like
LIARS..TomprrOW I will call and ask to talk to his boss--I know it will
do no good necause they are taught to be underhanded-could have at least
called and said sorry I forgot u or I had two customers come in with cash
dripping out of their pockets so u became unimportant..After my initial
contact with him I was told by someone who use to work with him, that he
was not the one I needed to be dealing with.. but I will call anyway..If
he had called me back with reasonBLE PRICE i WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT
YESTERDAY--i HAD SEEN THE VEHICLE YEST MORN AND WAS VERY INTERESTED..hATE
TO DEAL THERE BUT IT IS ONLY Toyota dealer nearby..Cant run up and down
the road like fully mobile folks can...and makes no sense to drive 50+
miles to deal with a reputable dealer when This dealer is10 miles away..

Just my opinion

While I agree and think not being able to easily cut in reverse is stupid and unnecessary, I do believe in the seat safety. Especially on riding lawn mowers. Way to easy to flip one of these things over while mowing. Now I haven't rolled a rider into a ditch for probably thirty or fourty years, and hopefully won't ever again, but I want the engine / blades to stop.

I believe in seat safeties to a point. What I disabled on my machine was the interlock that shuts the mower off when the PTO is disengaged AND the parking brake is engaged AND the operator leaves the seat. Royal nuisance - can't get off to move an obstruction without having to restart the tractor.

The interlocks that shut the tractor off if the PTO is running or the parking brake is not set and the operator leaves the seat are still operational....

On my old one I only disabled the reverse deal and left it where it would
die if you got off the seat with the blade engaged..New one is fine-it has
the bypass button on the dash..
