Loose radiator cap on 8n

My cap was loose on my 8n radiator so I ordered a new one from yt and it fits the same very loose the only way it seems snug but not to snug is if I turn it sideways about 1/4 turn. Any ideas why

Bullseye,You must have a aftermarket radiator in your tractor.I have seen many of them that the neck in the radiator was clocked and soldered in the wrong position and has to be re-soldered in the correct position.

Don't get "sideways about 1/4 turn" (?)

But if you mean turn the cap backward a little then I get it

sometimes you can get creative with the part of the cap that rides the underside of the rad pipe lip.
Sometimes one can add just the right ring gasket to take up the slack.

To reiterate . . .
if you mean that by backing it off from being full on, it gets tight enough . . . then if it doesn't vibrate away from that position it's found a new home. Or you could make it tighter with a gasket.

But since I've never seen an 8N cap
and there's talk about a wonky pipe
disregard this message. :D

They can sometimes be a bit loose - I have two original radiators that the caps fit loosely on. However, they do pressurize. These are low pressure systems, so it doesn't require a perfect fit.

You can try tinkering with the tabs on the cap to see if you can improve the fit.

Thanks for the info all.i don't think it will hold any pressure it is really loose and it doesn't hold enough when I turn it back some to stay very good at all
I'll try to adjust it somehow I haven't done a lot with it since ive been busy with other things.

You can call and see if an auto parts store (NAPA, Oreilly, ...) in your area loans out a pressure tester. That way you'd know for sure if the caps holding pressure.

I haven't used one on a tractor but I'm hoping they just used the design from a car so the size isn't something odd.
