Float sticking

The 8n I have been working on had been
running fine until today. Ran for 10 minutes
and then started skipping and would not run
a lot of smoke and when it quit there was
gas leaking out of the screw on the bottom
of the carb. I removed the carb and cleaned
it out and the float looked ok and I shook
it and did not here any gas in it. Put it
back together and it run a couple minutes
done and then the same thing. What would
cause that a bad float I can't tell?

What would cause the needle to stick I blew it out with air I thought it may have had some trash since it started while it was running so well

"a lot of smoke"

Do you mean black smoke out of the exhaust?
That would fit with gas leaking out of the carb.
IMO, that would indicate a needle valve not closing
or some other issue in the carb causing flooding.
Floats rubbing or not free to move, since you said
they didn't leak or have gas in them when you checked.
I have also seen the little spring that holds the needle
to the floats bind them up so the valve can't close.
If it is in place take it off and try it.
Adjust the float properly. Not just height, but drop also.

TO30Man, You state,What would cause the needle to stick I blew it out with air I thought it may have had some trash since it started while it was running so well.
Well if you blew aie into the carb fuel inlet while still together and on the tractor. When you blew compressed air into the carb that collapsed the float tanks from the air pressure inside the carb. The float will have to be replaced.

I had the carb off and apart took it back apart and everything looks clean and ok going to get a kit and try that tomorrow. What stops the gas from leaking around the drain plug when everything is working?
