2N was solid Grey

WesB.........while the 2N was painted solid GRAY from the factory, variously called battleship gray, industrial gray, forest gray. Its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you EXCEPT green and yellow. I always thought candy apple RED and lime GREEN was an interesting combination. Problem with candy apple RED, ya haffta wash and polish it all the time. Might do fer a trailer QUEEN, eh? Lotta people think the 8N's vermillion RED and medium GRAY look good on the 3-speed 2N.........color blind Dell

Ford 2N 1947:first one 9N258540 the last 1947 2N is 9N306221 so if the SN is 392,441 It has to be a 51 8N engine.The SN should be 8N392,441.

The Empire Blue and Egg Shell White Paint Scheme was not introduced by Ford until 1962. No Ford-Ferguson 9N nor 2N model tractor ever left the Rouge Plant, and after the war, (WWII that is)the Ford Highland Park Plant ever painted anything other than Ford Dark Grey; M-2888. Exceptions were units painted yellow or orange, but only thru and by dealers, for fleets purchased for use by municipalities like cities, counties, and states. The Ford-Ferguson Moto-Tug was painted in Ocean Grey, Olive Green, or standard Ford Dark Grey, but then those units were supplied by a dealer in Columbus, Ohio where the units were assembled and did all the needed paint schemes. Now, it was the practice at Ford that when new models were introduced with new paint schemes, they were to repaint current stock to 'look' like the new models in hopes a buyer would not notice and just go by color. FORD did this when the 8N was introduced and had 2N stock repainted Vermillion Red and Medium Grey. When the Thousand Series Models were introduced in 1962, again they were instructed to repaint old Hundred Series Models Blue and Off White. Here's a dealer Ad for one such procedure:



My Uncle painted the family early 9N Blue and White. I am restoring the tractor now and it will get the correct Ford 9N Dark Grey Paint when finished, I assure you -see pic:

I wonder if it's true that it happens to be the same as battleship gray because Henry got a deal on it because lots made during wartime.

I dont know but just might be..
