Sleeve for 2N axle seal

I removed the axle hubs of my 2N in my shop press. I am replacing the original axle
seals and adding sure seals as well. After pressing a new bearing race in and the
original style axle seal I slid it over the axle shaft and noticed the seal had a loose feel
to it. I noticed then that the axle itself was worn where the seal rides. I'm thinking of
adding a Speedi Sleeve over that area to restore the axle and to asure a good seal.
Has anyone done this? The size of the axle is 2.38 in that area. Any good places to
shop from? I used a few sleeves on another project years ago but don't rember where
I got them. Just rember sticker shock. Browsing threw NAPA website it doesn't look
like they got any cheaper.

Might sound dumb but I just worked on an old trailer hub where the race spun in the hub.
I removed and replaced the race with Loctite 603 retaining compound.
I decided to do a quick repair since the trailer is never used on the highway, just for hauling brush to a burn hole.

So sorry I commented thinking your seal itself was loose where it fitted in.
Yes the sleeves are somewhat expensive and wondering what the shaft size is.
Did you mic the O.D. ?
I may run into this problem too in the near future on mine.

(quoted from post at 11:23:46 03/08/17) Yes it is 2.38 I found the sleeve # but no one local has it. Needs to be ordered.

The 9N Rear Axle Oil Seal is part number D6NN4251A. This crosses to a SKF number of 23756. The recomended Speedi-Sleeve for that seal is 99238

There are actually four Speedi-Sleeves made for a shaft diameter of 2.375

99839 Has a min shaft diameter of 2.374 and a max shaft diameter of 2.380. This is 0.781 wide after removal of installation flange, and is a Speedi-Sleeve Gold Product. Not necessary in yor application.

99237 Has a min shaft diameter of 2.374 and a max shaft diameter of 2.380. This is 0.781 wide after removal of installation flange

99238 Has a min shaft diameter of 2.372 and a max shaft diameter of 2.378. This is 0.594 wide after removal of installation flange

99240 Has a min shaft diameter of 2.374 and a max shaft diameter of 2.380. This is 0.526 wide after removal of installation flange

So it would seem that you want either 99237 or 99240, depending on how wide you need it to be. These would be available at a reputable bearing supply house, automotive parts stores (real ones), or even ebay

99237

99240

Them speedy sleeves don't last too long. I would have it built up and turned down or get some new ones.

Remove the drum someone put it on it will come off it may not be fun but will come off...

No I have never done it but I spec I could if I needed to...
