No power at coil

I Have an 8n front distributor and not sure what is going on. When I turn the switch on I don't have any power at the coil. When I crank the starter I get a flashing light on my test probe at the coil and at the coil side of the resistor. When I remove the wire from the coil side of the resistor I have power going through the resistor. Help

Assuming you have good fuel flow to the carb. Run a hot wire from the non grounded side of the battery to the coil. Try and start it. If it starts your problem is between the battery and the coil. If it still doesn't start then the problem is in the distributor.

Rule out wiring and switches.

Hotwire coil top post direct to battery.

Got spark?

Post back.

If yes on spark, check connections wires and switch.

If no, check points.

There are other tests like putting test lamp inline with coil and rolling over, lamp should blink.
