If I were to cut that shaft in front of the pump will that pump slide forward enough in order for it to clear the back shaft.

WHo knows on a 747 but if you are talking about an 8n or 9n or 2n, then the short answer is no. cut on both sides of the pump.

I knew exactly what he was referring to soon as I read it.
I don't believe a 747 even has a pto driven pump?

As RG says, you must cut the shaft on both sides of the pump to drop the pump out.

If by chance the 747 has General Electric CF6 Engines, the Quill shaft / Power transmission shaft may have failed. There is a shear designed in the drive.Check the Scavenging oil screens and the Mag. pick-ups for signs of failure in the front frame .

I saw these two planes flying once. I don't really know if the bigger one was a 747 or not, but the big plane in front had a shaft sticking out of it's rear that went to the smaller plane flying just below it and a bit behind it.

Was this the big plane's PTO shaft that was powering the smaller plane?
