Rear Tire Size

I am in the process of getting new rear tires for my 8N. I just got new rims and tires to put the 600X16 s on the front and my rear tires are marked 12.4-28/11-28 so do I have 12.4 s or 11 s and if I can use either one which tire do you guys suggest?

The tractor on the right has 11.2x28s and that was the tire size the 8N came with. The tractor on the left has 12.4x28s. I have read comments on this board that 12.4s are too big for an 8N, but I do not notice a difference when using either tractor.

I've had both sizes on my Ns, and no complaints either way. They both work. The 12.4 will increase your ground speed some.

Standard size on an 8N is 11.2X28
I didnt do the math but think the 12.4s are about 10% larger in diameter than the 11.2s
Adding 10% to the already ridiculously fast reverse speed on an 8N would be a deal breaker for me.

Those are Sure nice looking 8ns. I have 11.2x28 and 12.4x28s on my 8ns and I have to say I prefer the 12.4x28.

No, the original tire sizes were measured by the inside width, hence 10 x 28 on 9 x 28 rims. The industry changed to measuring tire sizes by the outside width, hence 10 x 28 became 11.2 x 28 -same puppy. 12.4 is a wider tire, aprox. 1.2" wider.

I have 13.6's on my N. I've been told that they are too big. I don't know any different because this has been my only tractor. There hasn't been a time yet where I thought I couldn't do something because it had the wrong sized tires.

(quoted from post at 05:47:00 02/23/17) That seals it then it s 2 12.4X28 s for me

Tire slippage makes a difference for me I would go with 11.2's.
I have had two identical N's the one with 11.2 would outwork the one with 12.4 any day of the week. The one with 12.4 would bog down plowing are harder to get going while ruining a bush hog.

In a nutshell the one with 11.2 would keep the RPM's up and never bog give me the RPm's any day

I don't know how much difference you would notice , but as Hobo said , low end pulling would be better with the 11.2's . If you are driving long distance or constantly driving through wet muddy fields the 12.4's may help .

Well I also have a 5610 Ford if I have to do anything heavy all this little 8N is going to do is pull a finish mower around the yard or possibly pull a small 4 ft set of disc harrows

I you use chains for traction in the winter go with the smaller ones. Chains can rub on fender and sometimes catch and wreck fenders.

The only things we use chains for in South Georgia is pulling folks out of the ditches but thanks for the input. I actually ordered 2 12.4 s from amazon today. Got them 50 bucks cheaper than Agri Supply and free shipping
