You will probably not find a Funk starter for sale . If you did find a good one I would say the market price would be $300 - $400 . They do make an aftermarket 12v mini starter for the Ford 226 flathead .

Will that work for this as for what I've found but I'm no expert is that the engine I have is a 256 are the two engines interchangeable in parts

If it is a flathead then it is a 226 or a 254 . The starters and bolt one are the same at least with the side distributor motors . I do not have any knowledge of the front mount distributor motors other than the head gaskets to not interchange .

Most motor parts , except the starter can be purchased from your local parts store using a 1950 Ford pick up as a reference .

As has been said, finding a Funk starter will be very difficult as that is one of the parts that is either missing or in need of repair. The nose castings tended to break if the starter jammed. New are no longer available. A starter for a 226 or 254 will not work since the starter drive spring is on the opposite side of the drive gear and there is no clearance on the tractor housing where the Funk starter is mounted. The Funk starter is more of a traditional design with the spring between the gear and fields. It used the same end plates, housing, and fields as a 9N/2N/8N starter, with a modified 9N/2N/8N armature. The nose casing is custom Funk and the starter drive is not the same as a 9N/2N/8N.

There is a company that makes an aftermarket replacement, Automotive Electric Service (see link).

The engines are very similar but do have some different parts. I know the cylinder head is different and the 254 has a bigger bore so the block is at least bored out larger. Might be other differences too. I would think electrical parts would all be the same.

Thank you for that info, I do apologise I did mean 254. It's been tough finding out info on this tractor because alot of people don't know alot about them in my area

Thank you as well for your information, I'm trying to bring this back from the dead and any info on funk that anyone has I would appreciate.

(quoted from post at 19:46:56 02/21/17) that's cool wonder where you could get the kit
have seen a few made from a 1/4" plate cut / drilled for the transmission and another cut /drilled for the motor and a 3/8 x 1-1/2 wide bar rolled into a circle and welded in place . Not really a hard project .
