Normal I put the starter in the press to get the starter drive pin out. I had one this week the pin was stuck so I had to come up with a way to press the drive and hold it while I beat the pin out, this one was a bugger. Pix suck but I thing you will get the I.D.

The pin was stuck so bad I had to make a plate with a hole in it so I could drive the pin out

Everybody has to have a little Rube Goldberg in um but I cant connect the bolt cutters to
the job.

good job/idea
I had the opposite starter aggravation yesterday....
8N, doing the starter removal jigglin act...starter shaft pulled out of the drive...heard the dreaded clunk. Looked in the hole and saw the drive(new style)..barely...it got hung up while falling.
Some very careful work with a long screwdriver and my fingers...and I got it up and out...whew.

The too tight pin on yours...on mine..it fell out...
Shouldn't even be possible...but hey,.I was there :)
Looking at it on the bench with that little steel sleeve that
covers half of the pin hole to retain it...nope, not possible for it to fall out...cept..it did

The last one of those !*$!! things I did involved a 4-jaw chuck, a piece of angle iron and a tailstock with a good crank.

Bolt cutters, cut all thread and a washer for a shim.

The customer extended the drive and bough it back to me. I have always been able to spin them to get them to retract but not this one. I called my starter mad he has the same set up I have to retract them he told me to put another drive on it so I did. I took the old/new one apart to figure out how to retract them when all else fails, they put them together don't they. I had a second attempt to get better pix some came out well but my battery died so my pix are limited.

To keep up with the tool and for EZ storage

The clutch will spin off the rear but don't spin it off all the way are you will never find the dentent it will launch.

The dentent is on the opisit side of the open hole I have it removed enoufh so you can see it.

The trick to get the clutch to retract I cut a couple of pieces of a plastic bushing about .025 thick installed it so the detent would roll over it. It will still not go over the teeth of the gear but thats OK

starter%20ford%20tractor%20016_zpsr3retcih.jpg

Lay it on a hard surface and hit it with a hammer I use a heavy brass hammer it went over the teeth with no damage.
