I've boiled a cup dry that way before. Get engrossed in a project and the next thing you know you're coffee's gone!

When I was a kid we burned wood for heat.
A coffee can version of that was our humidifier to keep
the wooden furniture from drying out during the winter.
Add water as it ran low.

We lost electricity for a couple of days once . We found we could fry eggs and bacon with the iron skillet on one of those .
