1947 8N front spindle

Hello all,
I've read these forums for quite some time and now need some guidance. I bought a 47' 8N from a widow and am in the process of making repairs. Unfortunately her late husband was a bit of a "cobble jockey" and many things are sketchy at best. I have to replace the right front spindle and bushings. I have the spindle and bushings removed but need to know about the seals. There weren't any seals on the top or bottom of the spindle and the parts listings show seals for both. It appears the upper seal is felt but the lower seal is the quandary. Is there a lower seal and if so is it installed below the lower thrust bearing? Thanks in advance for your input and advice.

Are you sure you need to replace the spindle? Renewing bearings and bushings is probably what you need.

There is no seal on the bottom of the spindle. Each spindle has a thrust bearing, top and bottom bushing, and a top seal.

The link for the repair kit is here.

Thanks for the input Colin. Yes I need to replace the spindle as the upper bearing surface is oblonged due to a 5/8 bolt head sticking up that was holding the radius rod in place instead of a pin. So, each time the drag link passed by, the rod end nut contacted the bolt head canting the spindle wearing out the top bearing surface. This also allowed water into the casting rusting it as well.
Thanks again....
