Front Tire size

I was picking up my axle seals today at the tractor store and I noticed an 8N out front that had wider front tires than the stock 4X19 s and I really liked the way they looked and I remembered that the narrow 4X19 s on our 9N would cut ruts in the grass if you turned them really sharp. I talked to the owner and he has the rims for the wider tires and I was just wondering if any of you had tried them and how they worked out for you. I know they may take a little more effort in steering but I really hate the ruts the narrow tires cut in my grass.

Yes, 16 in rims were optional. They are a bit harder to steer
on solid ground but easier in loose soil when disking, etc.

They will still cut into the grass with 3 rib tires though.
If you're looking to avoid that, you may want to consider
implement tires or just plain old used truck tires on 16 rims.

Thanks Royce I got this little tractor just to mow around the house and maybe put in a few small food plots in a few of the corners of our farm fields. I mow the yard with a ZTR Husquvarna but there are some yard edges with pine cones and weeds that I don t want to mow with my good lawnmower. The big tractors (7610 Deeres) cant get into some of the small corners of our fields and my 5610 Ford is still to big. So I got this 8N just to plant plots for deer hunting so it will be running in harrowed soil as well as grass and the wider tires just looked like they would work out better for me. I may but a pair of the rims and put new implement tires on them and keep the 4X19s if I need them. What do you think

Standard 6 lug implement rims fit too, if they're not too wide.
Or, if they are dished the correct way. They may be easier to
find laying around as opposed to buying new. Just another option.

These are truck tires on my Jubilee with the rims dished out
because otherwise they rub.
That reminds me, I've got to get some recent pictures now that
it has newer sheet metal installed. LOL

Some of the guys were running 19" motorcycle tractors on their tractors. Just another option for you.

A 3000 uses the same 6 on 6" bolt pattern as an 8N.
I bought new implement rims for mine. They are 14" - to get the front end down a little lower. I run free used car tires on it and mount them myself - EZ. You can get implement rims in 14,15 and 16" diameters and various widths.
Also, you can get them with different offsets which places the tire farther out so they don't rub the spindles. And they are tubeless. So if you get a puncture you can fix it with a plug without taking it off the tractor.
With car tires I still got a bit of scuffing on the lawn in a sharp turn. Front weights substantially reduced that scuffing.

My 8N with a Woods belly mower has 15-inch fairly wide car radials on the front. It doesn't cut up the turf when turning sharply.

The 3 x 19 front wheels (tires are 4 x 19) were OEM on a new 9N, 2N, and 8N tractor. The 5.50 x 16 wheels were offered as options with the 8N. Then 6.0 x 16 too and became standard on NAAs on up. It wasn't until the 600/800 that front wheel weights were designed. two-piece bolt-ons adding another 100 pounds per wheel. Early 16" wheels had no extra bolt holes for the weights as they weren't around yet. My Firestone 6.0 a 16 Ground Grip fronts as shown here were purchased at Miller Tire and are still available today. Ditto goes for the Firestone Single Rib 4 x19 as well.

I can get the tires and rims right here in town those 600X16s are what was on the tractor I saw. I don't care about the front weights I want something that wont cut up my grass and still work well in soft harrowed ground

Skip when I had my tire shop, I put a lot of the 16" tires and rims on the fords. Most guys had me scrap the 19" rims and recycle the 19" tires. I do not remember anyone regretting switching to the 16" tires.

And some use junk 6.00 x 16" Harley Tires. I haven't tried enough tires to have any right to an opinion, but I have always been happy with them.

(quoted from post at 09:04:02 02/14/17) That's motorcycle tires, not motorcycle tractors.

The 4x19" were standard 39 thru 51, after that the 16" wheel with 5:50x16" tires was standard commencing with all 1952 8N's as well as the NAA series, not 6:00x16's. The light duty 16" rims were optional on the 8N prior to 1952. There also was a 16" wheel available for 9/2N's. The wider HD 16" rims for 6:00x16' tires came along shortly thereafter.
