I guess Carter Brothers is out of business-no luck finding the metal disc that goes on the end of the crankshaft(like old rear engine Snapper mower) so I am checking into possibility of using a Snapper disc..Disc has 1 inch hole and cheap motor has 7/8 shaft so will have to use a sleeve and maybe a step key--dont know about key requirement yet...mow the big problem is that the Kart needs short shaft engine--with old disc stuck in the way, best U can tell shaft only needs to be 1 inch-maybe 1-1/4 long--new cheap motot has 3.2" shaft--reckon it can be cut off and drilled and tapped? --old one was keyed and had bolt in end of crank....gotta check-extra shaft length might not matter-might just be able to let it stick thru the plate....helps to think out loud sometimes.....

Tom,Yes you can shorten the crank to the needed length then drill and thap the shaft for the retaining bolt. You might find a bushing at McMaster-Carr so you could fit the disc to the shaft. Or look on Carter Brothers they show tons of cart parts, they may have that bushing you need.
