8N PTO Seal

I just replaced the PTO seal on my 8N , and the job went smoothly. I removed the old seal, that was very well worn, and it was made differently than the new seal. It had the spring an rubber seal an a felt washer seal that was made in a metal case. The felt was to the rear of the rubber when on the shaft and acted as a wiper for dust and dirt to help protect the rubber from damage from dirt and weeds/grass that wrap up on the shaft while in use. Has anyone had or know if a seal made like this that is made ? I would like to use that seal if I ever have to replace one again. I looked for numbers on it and all I could make out was the Ford logo on it.

I can't say with any certainty, but maybe you had the early
style PTO shaft with the 9N724 washer in it?
SouNdguy posted some info on YT [b:77a9eee3b1]here.[/b:77a9eee3b1]

the old style seal is not made. there have been at least 2 revisions. Both seem to work just fine. i have used both the newer seals.. none are leaking. ( if your wear ring is good, etc. )

Thanks for the reply's, and all the info, Soundguy & Royse. The change over was a easy job and works as it should. It is the later PTO on a 1951 tractor. I though I' ask as when I rebuilt the motor last year, I found that the PO at some point switched the block to a 9N or industrial block. It did not really make that big of a difference as we did all the machine work and more or less built it up to almost full pulling specks for tractor pulls. Now all I have to do is get it all cleaned up and repainted. It should make quite a difference when in use.
Thanks to all, on the forum, for all the great threads and replys.
