OT carter Go Kart

Ever heard of a Carter Go Kart--Some lowlife sold my XDIL one that engine is shot--Tecumseh-so in
my opinion wasnt much engine when brand new..Anyway I'n trying to get it going for the Frands--Am
having no luck getting the metal drive disc off of the crankshaft-so guess I will need motor and
plate--had 3.5 --Briggs I see have muffler on opposite side--cant have muffler blowing in kids
ear..Anyway got to determine bolt pattern etc to buy inexpensive Briggs or Honda---when miffler
is turned away from driver then the recoil pill handle faces the wrong way--hoping that will come
loose and rotate on some so I can get past that hurdle..main thing is plate--no luck googling--
appears that they dont want u to contact them--any thoughts or experiences getting parts for this
Carter rig??Similar setup to a Snapper rear enbgine mower rubber wheel and disc drive--wondering
if the crankshaft disc from an old snapper would work??Any help appreciated--bheacy duty puller
and wd half of the day and no progress..only heat I have is small hand held mapp type-have not
tried...

I don't know anything about Carter go-karts Tom, but if that is a
newer model Tecumseh I agree with your assessment of its value.

WD will not help in getting the drive disk off. Some real penetrating
oil might, but I suspect it is a tapered shaft so that might not
help too much either. Be careful with heat. It may melt.

The recoil/pull start can be rotated. At least it could on the old
ones. Brand new predator engines are less than $100 from HF.
I have no experience with them but I have only heard good reviews.

Thanks Royse--I have tinkered with, rebuilt small engines as a hobby forever and here is the scoop
on Tecumseh--If u get a good one, they are really stout..use to be bad about slinging rods and were
famous for carb problems..I'll have to look harder for the $100 motor at HF--That is what I'm
looking for..Thanks agaim..

Had an old Tecumseh in a Sears riding mower.
Sears, not new enough to be a Craftsman.
Had to adjust the overhead valves about every time I
worked it long enough to get it hot. But it kept right on
running as long as I was willing to adjust the valves.
You could feel the heat from the driver's seat when they
weren't adjusted right. Wonder it didn't burn up.

And the pull start can be rotated by drilling out the rivets and reriveting it in the right position.

Those snapper friction drives are cheap. Measure it. If it's the same just buy a new one and leave the old one on the engine to be scrapped. Life is too short.

Tom, a friend recently had a go-kart with a bad engine that he wanted to get going for his daughter. He bought one of the engines in link below. Hard to beat $100 for an engine, even if it is from HF. He said he was well pleased with it. Get a new clutch, and I would imagine you are in business.
Engine for 100

I agree-As I recall, the Snapper plate is bigger diameter so I have to see if it will fit under there-I think it will I hope, I hope----Thanks

This one requires a vertical shaft--if they had vertical at that price I'd grab it--if u see one, please let me know=Thanks

If you can,get a torque converter that attaches to the output shaft of the motor. It's used in place of the centrifugal clutch that most go-carts are sold with. It makes you think it has an auto transmission.
