Ford 2N poping in carberator

I have a ford 2N and there is a steady popping in the carburetor. I have changed the plugs and checked the firing order. The compression is about 80 on each cylinder. What could be wrong?

On most of the motors popping in the carb is a intake valve is set to tight , a bad valve, timing to fast, or a bad valve spring. If the compression is even on all the cylinders when testing with ALL the plugs out and with spinning the motor over with the starter, then retest the compression again after placing some oil in the cylinders as you test each one. Only spin the motor over till the gage jumps 3 or 4 times on each cylinder. Doing a test this way should give higher reading with the oil and should show up a bad valve or valve setting. it will also show that all the rings are OK. If the motor has not been rebuilt and had new seats placed, then there is a chance that running the motor with the ethanol gas might have burnt a valve or seat on a intake valve.
A reading of 80 seems low if I remember correctly, and is a indication that the motor needs a rebuild.

I will put oil in the cylinders and recheck the compression. It will be a few weeks before I can get it back into my shop. Thank you

Sticking valve? My neighbor had a 2N and sticking valves were a chronic problem because of infrequent use. He used a pint of ATF to a full tank of gas and swore it cured the problem. For whatever it"s worth.....
