Extra electronic ignition...long story but should I keep it?

So...after dealing with broken bendix and bent starter shaft, new starter, still no start...checked a few things and found no spark to the plugs. Had voltage to the coil but no spark.
Long story...but after all of this being my fault, I ordered a new 12v electronic ignition (just converted it over the summer) because when I broke the bendix, I left the key on for an hour so I figured I somked it.

Got the new ignition today and pulled the cap to find the rotor broken to pieces. Hmmm maybe that's why I had no spark. So I pulled out the old rotor I pulled off this fall, put new plugs in and she fired right up. In my trouble shooting of the no start condition, I had pulled the cap and must have not had to rotor back on all the way and she cracked to bits.

Now I have a new electronic ignition. Should I send it back, sell it myself or keep it for if the current ignition goes?

'52 side mount, 12v.

I thought for sure with having the key on for an hour, I smoked it. How long do these last?

" I thought for sure with having the key on for an hour, I smoked it. How long do these last?"

That would depend on the model.

Pertronix now makes one with a module that won't overheat. The earlier ones most certainly would.

Both are a 1244a[/quote]

That is the Ignitor I module. The Ignitor II version is 91244a and has the safety shutoff. If I ever go this route that would be my choice. For some reason none of the usual tractor part suppliers sell the Ignitor II kit - probably because it costs more. It can be purchased online from Autoplicity for $115 plus shipping.

Thanks! I will probably keep it for a little bit just to be safe, then sell it myself on ebay or something. I'll keep this part number so that if this one does let the smoke out I'll get the upgraded one.

Others will correct me if I'm wrong but I
think the Hundred Series tractors use the
same distributer and points as a side mount
N.
So what I would do is buy a Jubilee or
Hundred and put it in that :)
