Royce, OT carb cleanup question.

Royce, I have a Holley 94 for a flathead v8 I am working on. Soaking it right now in carb cleaner. In the accelerator pump well is a film of corrosion that looks like rust. However is is an aluminum body carb. Must be from.the pump spring. Anyway, will that carb cleaner get that out or am I going to have to use some mechanical.means of removing. Furthermore , I thought about getting a tiny wire brush/ wheel for my dremel to clean things up inside. Anything wrong with that idea?

Sorry to be late to the party, been at work all day.

I've never worked on that particular model of carb cowdog,
but lets hope the cleaner will get it out.
Scratches in most accelerator pump wells will cause problems.
Being aluminum it could scratch easily.
You might want to try a brass or even nylon brush in another,
less critical area first to see what it looks like.

I use a wire wheel and a wire cup brushes in my Dremel on
the Marvel Schebler carbs, but they're cast. Then I have the
joy of making sure I clean out all the little wires that fly off.

I know all about the work thing myself as well. I guess I will chexk.it out tonight. Hopefully it's cleaned up. Maybe I will.try and rig up some sort of brush. I gave it a soak in some older carb cleaner, didn't quite get it clean. Now I have it soaking in some fresh stuff. THanks anyway.

Cowdog,

What comes to mind is using an old accelerator pump of the correct diam as a tool to spin a surround of 600 emery (with a solvent like lacquer thinner) in the accelerator pump bore. That way you won't have to worry about getting it out of round.

Even judicious use of your little finger, if it fits, and emery.
I've done that lots of times.

As it turned out. The second 24 hours in fresh carb cleaner looks like.it did the trick. I have to get them out and washed off . I typically use mineral spirits.
Hopefully tonight
