Noise in Jubilee Hydraulic Pump

Need some input....

NAA runs good, but I've got a noise in the hydraulic pump. Quiets somewhat at mid RPM but much louder at idle. Kind of a tick-tick-tick scraping type noise.

Took the pump off this afternoon to confirm and started the tractor. Definitely the pump. While I had it off, I checked for play in the gear. Tight and no play. Turned the pump gear by hand several times, no unusual or odd noises.

Do have some wear on the pump gear:

Cam gear looks good, and is also tight. But I did note that it is not centered in the drive hole in the block. Very little end play though on the cam shaft.

Any ideas on my noise? I can rebuild the pump but hate to have to. It works well other than being noisy.

You are probably on the wrong end of the situation. The timing gears at the front of the engine are probably making the noise, thanks to the hydraulic pump.

Had a similar situation with my 841. Turned out to be a loose timing gear on the cam. I found it when it finally came loose, jammed and broke the cam. OUCH!! Caused by the previous owner installing the gear with a grade 2 bolt and a stack of flat washers.

Is it the vane or piston pump?

Piston type.

Thanks.

My Jube's old pump vanes have a clicking rattle especially when the fluid is hot but in this cold and snow it's real quiet. :)

I expect I'll be begging TOH for a gear pump conversion one of these days.

(quoted from post at 08:36:06 02/07/17) Here's s link to the pump noise:

If I'm hearing what needs to be heard, I'm hearing a light clicking that is too high range a tone to be the mid-range tone that a camshaft or front crank gear could make.

So my money is on the pump.
Is it more noticeable once the Hydraulic fluid is hot and thinner? Mine sure is.

Have you tried a mechanics stethoscope? One of the best K-D tools I ever bought.

Could it be "much louder at idle" because of less fluid and pressure passing through the pump at idle. (?)

Yeah, I've used a broom handle and screwdriver, even closed my eyes and listened. Noise translates everywhere as you can tell even in the video. :)

Rebuild kit is only $36. But I hate the thought cause it works well. Guess I'm cheap.
