homemade snowplow

A couple of people on the site were looking for ideas for a snowplow. Here's one I made a few years back out of angle iron and parts off an old truck plow. Hope the photo will help.

Kirk -is that on an 8N? Is it controlled by the 3-pt lift? Farmer Dan on the other Ford tractor place made his own too using a 12-volt winch to raise and lower it. He said he would have used a 6-volt winch but couldn't find anyone who made one. He did a write-up in the how to forum as well...used a truck blade too like you. I also like his setup utilizing a back blade as well.

Tim mine was on a 9N and used the 3pt to lift. I wish I had made the frame higher so you could lift the blade higher. The dearborn I have on my 2N now lifts about the same height but what's nice about that one is you can hook the chain up and still use the 3pt for other implements unlike my homemade job and even the ARPS plow I used to have.

Good Stuff .

I like the pivot off of a front frame . I think the Dearborn set up only has guides in the front ? With the front pivot I could make the geometry of the cable attachment adjustable . When I lower the mower it will pick up the blade . Should work great for flattening ant hills and pushing small to medium limbs out of the way .

Do you have any pics of the rear attachment , Thanks - Ken .

Sorry Ken but I don't have the photos of the rear off the 9n, lost them in computer crash. I was able to find the system I rigged up for the 4000 before I found the
proper bracket. If you have an 8n or later you can make the same thing using your drawbar than ran cable up thru a piece of angle held on the 3pt arms by a couple of J
bolts.
The 9n had a couple of angles off the four bolts around the pto with a pulley inbtween.

Ken I ran across this photo of one I use later on the N tractor. It doesn't show the angles that ran from the frame back the that sway bar brackets. With this one I ran
off the test port and had to chain the 3pt down.
The old truck frames and blades are pretty easy to find on craigslist for not a lot of money. Than just cut fit and weld to make up to fit your tractor.
