Oil Pressure Gauge Question

About to do a complete tune up on my uncles 1949 8N tractor. Noticed his oil gauge (broken) but oil line still runs to it. I would assume it will work withe a new gauge I'm thinking of ordering for him it's only like $10 from Yesterdays Tractor parts. Any reasons other than it appears to be original and cracked, rusted why it should not work? Hate to order gauge and it not work but it's only $10 bucks. Ideas or inputs welcome....Thanks...Ricky :D[b:2b15a175f0][/b:2b15a175f0]

pull the line off the gauge and turn the engine over. if nothing comes out, it's not the gauge.

I wouldn't waist my money on those cheap gauges. Last year I put
gauges in a 641. I bought the gauges from Dennis Carpenter. They
were foreign made junk. I had to get three fuel gauges and two
temp gauges.

A friend of mine painted his 630. Installed new reproduction JD
gauges. The only gauge that worked was the amp meter.

I'm only going to use Stuart Warner gauges for now on.

look at it like this.. it's a tube run to a gauge.. if it's not the 10$ gauge.. it gonna be a $$BIG$$ problem...

I put a new vacuum gage on my hydraulic filter system.
My being initially dazzled by the nice low price of the gage, turned to disappointment in chinese junk once again.

In this case the colors on the face have all but disappeared in two years and with next to no sun even shining on it; i.e., it looks old and totally pale now because of the lack of paint integrity.

Compared to my original temp gauge on the tractor that still has its colors, this one sucks.

I know you probably won't have color on an oil pressure gauge face . . . just thought I'd point out another indicator of getting what you pay for.

I had to haul it about 30 miles back to my house to work on it and he had no working oil pressure gauge. Figured I'd throw one on it. But of course if he doesn't watch it's useless anyway....

Ricky,

Funny thing is, that when I got this tractor it had an old quality OIL Pressure gauge on the hydraulic filter mount which was totally incorrect. But it looks like the perfect replacement for my existing dashboard oil pressure gauge. I should probably keep it around as a spare. Here it is in the photo.

Even if a gauge face is plain white or black paint, the ultraviolet resistance of the paint still matters.
I should take an "after" photo of me faded new vacuum gauge.
