NAA Front Axle

I need to replace the center pin on my '54 NAA Front Axle. Any suggestions or tricks from those who have done it?

Also while crawling around my tractor, I noticed a small hairline crack beginning to form on one side of the axle. Can this be safely repaired by welding or will another axle be required?

Thanks for your assistance!

The front axles are made of drop forged steel and weld easily. Vee it out and fill it back up.
No special technique, rods or equipment required.
I have done new center bushings and pins on Ns and Thousand Series but never on an NAA or Hundred Series.
Does the pin on that model screw in?
If so they can be a bear to get out and big heat is usually needed.

I use a hammer and punch on the tab to get it to turn first.
Once it will turn it will usually come out.
On the ones I can't get to turn, I take the whole bolster off
the front of the engine, block it up with the pin down, soak it
in penetrating oil for a while then hammer it out from the back.
As said, heat may also help.

Thanks for your suggestions and links. Looks like I'm in for some more experience as the front flange that's supposed to be attached to the pin was no longer attached. Once I removed the small bolt through the flange, the flange slipped right off the pin. I thought it was supposed to do that at first but now realize the flange was part of the pin assembly. So, now the pin is still in place, probably rusted tight, with no way to rotate the pin to break the rust. I will tackle the project again tomorrow after some rest.

you can always weld to the pin and use a puller or turner.. the heat from welding will help.

torch and penetrant will doubly help.
