9n starting issue

Hi
Live in Ohio and have a 9N built in 1939 (if I decoded the VIN correctly). Have been looking at this site to get some ideas on how to diagnose the issue with 9N not starting.

Some context: I was plowing snow at the end of the driveway and a truck went by an doused me and the tractor in wet slush; slush hit the right side of the tractor. A few seconds later the tractor died. May just be coincidence, but who knows. Turns over great doesn't want to fire. Looked at the "50 tips" and #13. So far this is what I have done:
1). Verified that loosening the carb bolt on the bottom produces a stream of gas
2). Using a circuit tester, verified that there is power to the wire on top of the coil
3). Ordered a tune up kit with 437 plugs and points-which will have to wait til the weekend for installation if they come prior to then.
4). Once received I will try gapping an old plug and see if I'm getting spark

Any other suggestions to try at this point would be most appreciated. It's snowing and snowing and snowing......
Regards,
Vimce

Welcome to the forum. Most likely the distributor got wet.
Drying it out may be all it needs to get you going.
There is a gasket set for the distributor. If the gaskets
aren't there or are old, I'd recommend replacing them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Ordered the gasket kit you suggested.

To dry that out would I need to pull off the coil and distributor assembly, removing the unit, and open up to dry it out?
Wife suggested putting the hair dryer to it.

Countryboy1956,Welcome to the forum,Did you shake your fist at that fellow in the truck lol.You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to dry out the distributor cap and distributor. Also like Royse said, check the gaskets and replace them if they are old /warped and hard or missing will help keep it running.

Hot Damn!! 30 minutes with the hair dryer pointed at distributor and she fired right up!! Thank you. Lake effect snow headed our way.

Glad to hear you got it going.
The gaskets will help prevent it from happening again.
Lake effect snow - what's your general location?
Looks like St. Joe County MI is expecting some.

I thought it might be somewhere in the Great Lakes region.
We seem to talk about lake effect snow a lot.
Most of it misses me thankfully.

That would put you just about in my back yard. Madison or Geneva????? I'm in snow covered Ashtabula. Glad you got her started, and weclome to the board. Great bunch of guys here.

Hey Mike, or I should say "hey neighbor". Live in the big city of Huntsburg. This is a great site -- and a very knowledgeable group of folks. I certainly appreciated the help yesterday, with more snow in the forecast tonight. As can see from the pic (if i was successful in uploading) why needed this tractor running.

Hey guys, I tried posting a link a couple days ago and haven't got a reply and I cant find my post anywhere. I'm having the same sort of troubles with my 12V converted 9n. Ran fine one day wouldnt start the next. It will crank all day long but no start. I have nice blue/white spark jumping 3/16 - 1/4" gap. Fuel flowing freely from bottom of bowl. Air filter not plugged. New points and condensor, points gapped to .015, timed the distributor according to the manual. New 437 plugs and wires. New amp meter that the needle slightly moves back and forth when cranking. I have a squre can dist that is a lower profile than the replacements and it has a plug wire coming out of it that goes over to a round can coil on the side of the tractor. I have power to the top nut of the square can coil. I also have a brand new battery fully charged. I have a ballast resistor up underneath the battery. I pulled the distributor out for the 100th time and checked the continuity through the top electrical nut to the copper pigtail and I get .03 ohms. Is that good or bad? Any thoughts of where I can start next? I havent dove into the carb yet bacause I get good flow out of the bottom of it. Is there still a chance that I'm not getting fuel to the engine because of flooding? Again, I've tried to start it 50 times and not once did it try to fire? Thanks for the help, I'm stumped!
