pinion gear question

My rear housing was so bad I got another one from the boneyard today and there looks like some sort of splined pinion gear bearing inside with a riveted guard around it does anyone know if it is a special kind of bearing or what?

I have two 8N's with chipped pinion gears that need replaced . I had a pile of rear ends so I spent a weekend busting them down . Those bearings are a booger to get out after grinding off the rivet heads . After seeing those bearings are $70 each I decided to salvage all I could . From memory the bad pinions I need to replace have good bearings but it looks like replacing those rivet would be a task .

I got mine apart and cleaned up today, those rivets are actually drive screws. You can grind the head off replace the bearing and redrill the holes and put the splash guard back with 2 new drive screws

The bearing bore is a straight thru hole. Once the pinion is out you can knock the bearing out in that direction to replace it. No need to remove the oil trough and drive screws.
