MM Z brake locked up

Greetings, I have had a z or a u for about 40 years and not had this happen. Yesterday the right braked locked up while driving.

Can I fix it without pulling the drum?

Is it adjusted too tight? What needs to done to stop this?

It's not that hard to remove the break drum. I have removed a lot of Z breaks and
all they need is lubed and cleaned up. Sometimes they need break linings. I think some one
on an earlier post knew of a pickup truck break that would fit the back plate.

Best to take a look inside. Could be anything from a rusty cable to a lining that came off the shoe and jammed the drum.

If it locked up when you applied the brake it might be that the linings are wore enough and they
"over expanded" beyond the normal limit and stuck. You will more than likely have to back the brakes
off some before you remove the drum.

Brake linings, rivets, and rivet tool are available from a major antique tractor parts supplier.
