" I was told that the copper provides too much resistance."

Must have been quite a BS'er that told you that "old mechanics' wives tale"!

Electronic noise suppression is the issue, and spiral wound "magnetic core" wires will do that job more reliably than "carbon core" wires.

One thing that not many people know is that you need to throw those copper core wires away when you switch to electronic ignition and put the carbon core wires on instead. Learned the hard way on a U that I converted a few years ago. I was told that the copper provides too much resistance. Like someone else said, a hot coil doesn't hurt either.

The electronic ignition units are very sensitive to the ohm rating of the coil. The so called electronic ignitions are really just a Hall Effect no moving parts trigger for a conventional coil, not a true electronic ignition like an MSD box. I always told customers that if they wanted the P*******x unit to work the best get their coil also.

Do you have a direct 12 volt coil (no external resistor required) or do you have a 6volt or 12 volt external resistor required coil?

If the latter, do you have the resistor in the circuit.

Is the EI wired correctly
