Looking at a ZB on a upcoming auction. It has a muffler coming through the hood on the right side. All others I’ve seen have a pipe coming out the left side of the hood. There’s not a hole on the left side. I’ve only seen 1 picture of the tractor, have not seen in person. Were some this way?

(quoted from post at 22:58:55 05/10/18) Looking at a ZB on a upcoming auction. It has a muffler coming through the hood on the right side. I thought they all were on the left side also.

Do you know if it was a recent picture? If it was an old style photo it's possible that the negative could have been developed backwards. I guess it's possible digitally also. Green magazine recently had a photo of some John Deeres with the flywheels on the right side!

Not shure. Only 1 picture I haven’t seen it in person. If you want to see it steffesgroup.com it’s Clayton Zemlicka auction. Don’t know how to do a link.

It appears to be a ZB with the vertical exhaust on the right hand side. Later there is an early RTU and also even later is a picture of the decal set for the R.

Serial number listed is for 1954 ZB. Appears to have earlier ZT manifold with exhaust exiting middle of the hood. ZB should have muffler under the
hood and exiting front left corner of hood. There's an extra pump or something mounted in that area and the hood has been modified to clear it.

My ZB was set up somewhat similarly when I purchased it. The previous owner added a single action Char-lynn valve into the hydraulic system. You can't run a single action cylinder with the MM uni-matic system. By adding the extra valve you can do it. The only problem you have is lack of hydraulic capacity to run the single action cylinder. In my case they added a tank under the hood with a fill cap/vent above the hood and hooked the tank into the fill plug in the uni-matic system. Then they fabricated an exhaust elbow that went thru the hood so you could use a vertical muffler. They picture shows what looks to me like a char-lynn valve mounted in the hydraulic pump area and what looks like a filler cap ahead of the fuel tank that is sticking thru the hood. Could be a possibility for the reason for the vertical muffler.

That looks to be a ZB with a later engine in it like a 445. You can see the
spark plug wires on the left of the engine and the exhaust is too small to be
for an old ZT and it isnt closer to the center of the hood like the ZTs were.

I can see the separate heads and blocks for a 445 or 4 Star engine.

Decals, steering shaft, clutch and live power on the left brake are all in the right position so it is not a reversed picture.

Exhaust output would be right for a 445 or 4 Star engine.

Serial number is a typo. Should be 062 prefix would be for a ZBU (double wheel narrow front end). I find no listing for 620 prefix.
