good evening all looking at getting some front weights for the m5 for plowing etc. I'm thinking the mm weights for the front would be hard to come by?? but the front weight bracket (measures 5" deep) i'm thinking suitcase weights style would work as well. has any one done this?

I have seen the original "banana" weights are out there and seem to bring a good price (too much in my opinion). Now the suitcase weights
from the white tractors probably will fit nicely since the front weight bracket on a 2-135 or 2-155 are curved about the same not sure whAt
other white tractors used the same design those are 2 that come to mind.

thank you travis, i'm thinking to go to my local tractor wreckers and see what I can find localy as having them shipped would cost almost as much as the weights themselves!

I use MM suit case weights on mine, they hook right on and look great. Just be a little careful pulling them on and off they get a little close to the grill.

thank you whiskey for the heads up, there is a co. in texas making different suitcase weights for older model tractors ih etc. but the shipping would be more than the weights! so something to watch for is how much iron is behind the bracket getting to close to the grill.

Find a metal shop that has a 4 tip cutter head on a torch,[ so they can cut 4 pieces of metal at one time ] or a water jet cutter, First make a pattern out of cardboard, the shape and size that will fit and work on the tractor. Then take them the pattern and they can make you 4 or 8, etc,out of 1 inch thick metal. I had that done and their about 30% smaller than a regular 100 lb IHC weight, they weigh about 33 lbs just right size for me. They can cut the handle in their also! Just a suggestion, but i did mine about 12 years ago when metal was cheaper !

another question guys How much weight should you put up front??

carvel.....seen the front suitcase weights bring $200 a piece ....they had the mm logo on them ....and I know the mm weights will fit a white 2-135 but I don't know the other way round...old smokey

thank you old smokey, tjv was saying the same thing, I would assume the 2-135 weights should fit the m5. do you know if they where 100 lb weights? and how many should a guy put on?

I don't have a set of the white weights, but any I have seen look to be the same size, maybe a little thicker and look to fasten on the bracket the same as the mm....talk to some other people on this to be sure thou....old smokey

the other thing ...im thinking 6 weights is all that will fit on the weight bracket...all we ever had was 5 and seem to work all right...but mind you I was a young lad back when dad was using that tractor and from what I got to run it the front end never came of the ground unless you purposely tried to get the front end to rare up with a piece of equipment on the 3 point.

thank you old smokey, I don't have a 3 pt. on either m5 I have, so buying all draw bar equipment with hydraulics. I was thinking that 5 should be good, pulling with the draw bar and not a 3 pt. it should keep the front end down better, i'm guessing when I say this but equipment being further back it shouldn't want to lift the front so much.

I doubt you are going to need to add much weight. The standard style tractor that you have is much heavier on the front than the other type front end tractors.

I have been thinking about that del, and I will try running without any front weights and see how it go's.

Like Del says there is no reason for weights on a M5. We never used any on ours. Front
heavy enough.

thanks gary I will go with it as is, with everything off the draw bar I should be fine.
