Long rear axles, 18.4-34 rears (it once had 12.4-38s) and a single tire front-end.

Very neat. My 445N-LP has one of those 10 inch front wheels. Need to get it running one of these days.

I have had two 445s with the N front end. Both had the longest rear axles listed in the parts book. Does your have them as well?

You have some really neat stuff in your collection. Glad you have some offspring that enjoys it as well. My guess is, with a single front wheel and long axles, it was set up for a cotton stripper. And another owner later put on the big tires.

The family I bought it from got in the early 1980s. At that time, it had 12.4-38s on it which would have worked well between cotton rows. At some point, those tires went bad (I saw them out behind their shop) and the owner (no longer living) must have done some trading to get the Oliver wheels with the 18.4-34s. I looked around hoping to find the stamped steel rims but they were gone. Tractor sat for about 15 years after it was learned it had a major water leak from between the heads. I did have it running briefly and drove it off the trailer. I don't normally get to drive them that quickly after writing a check. I think I'll put it back on skinny rear tires at some point and loose the weight of those cast centers and over-sized tires.

Have a U302 with long axles but it is a standard. Your jet looks like a 1964 era. Am sure sn's weren't separated for N's. Have a N here in MB and know of another but R's. Nice find again!

I do not have a Jet Star 3 book that shows long axles. They are 2-1/2" diameter. Where would you think the axle conversion would have been done? Factory, Dealer, Under a shade tree in the back yard, ........?

I finally got out to look at my 445N-LP. It may have had long axles as they are both shortened with a smoke wrench. The right axle has about 3 1/2" beyond the hub and the left one about 5".
