Got tractor tore down found number 1 rod waxed it's bearing. Looks like the journal is packed tight with bearing material and looks like it's blued some. Is this crank junk? Also all other journals have pitting it's already been ground .10 and .10.

I've got a crank that is ground with new bearings here for an R if needed. I could email you pictures if you would like. Otherwise take yours to a crank shop and get their opinion. First check what is available for bearing sizes.

Never seen a worn crank on a R. Never had one that was ground.Must have pile of hours on
it. Whole tractors here running cheaper than getting a crank done with amount of labor. R
values have collapsed especially on RTS. They were bringing decent dollar now little more
than scrap running.

My brother has had it for 19 years used to use it alot not worried about value since hardly any moline is worth what you put into it. We don't plan on selling but it's been on the back burner for a year now would just like to get her going again. Called machine shop it's 75 bucks to grind polish and clean oil journals bringing it in tomorrow to see of its fixable. And gonna check with Welters and see how much a guy can go with the grinding.

75.00, thats not even an hrs. labour. hard to believe they can do it that cheap.quite sure you can go to .020 or even .030. with it being gas engine.

Quite cheap because the machinist is a good family friend lol. Found that I can get .30 rods so I'm sure that'll take care of it...i hope.

that should grind out at 10 or 20 J.A.R. I have seen much worse rebuilt, they way I look at putting money into the older tractors is what am I going to have at the end of the day, after it's all said and done? like you i'm not rebuilding to sell, i'm rebuilding to have a reliable tractor that I can work on and fix (no lap top required) that will get the job done, and besides I love working on old iron that was built with quality and pride. do you think 60 or 70 years from today guys will be rebuilding a 2018 jd or case ih, or Kubota? personally I don't think so not from what iv'e seen on the dealership floor.

Carvel I beleive we think the same way. I can't see anyone wanting to rebuild anything they make nowadays. There is no taste no style and they ain't built to last. Nobody can say a brand new tractor looks good...yes it might have all the creature comforts but the way I look at it the more stuff I can do manually like shift gears manually engage pto the longer itll last and simpilar it can be repired. Yes it is just a narrow front R but we got our use outta it and plus it's kind of a handy little tractor..beats the snot out of any farmall "supposedly" equal to the same size but it's smaller lol.

J.A.R. the part I find funny (and ridiculous) is the arodynamic hoods on the new tractors ( moving across the field at 8 mph maybe) that hood curving down to the ground! when you stand back and look at them they look like an anteater trying to stuff his face in the dirt

Make sure the oil passages get cleaned out. The R crank oils from the rear and as time goes on and the gunk and dirt build up in there it will get blocked and quit oiling the #1 journal. This is a common problem on the old R's. I have run into two of them with this issue in the last few years.
