Wonder what it would take to swap a narrow front off a late model (smooth hood) to a standard? My brother has a complete flat bar Grille ZTS that is too far gone to restore so we were wondering if that axle and bolster would work on his R. Thanks

You will need steering box, Front bolster and whole axle off a R. Z used J axle. R has
different axle. Would have to go to books ZA and later R may be close.

The R is a '51 but we ain't sure about the Z it's a flat bar grille. I don't have a book for any Z so I can't cross numbers. If someone could check their books for part numbers it'd be much appreciated.

No such thing as flat bar ZTS. In 49 became ZAS All red nose previous. ZA has different
bolster , radiator etc. Would bolt on if wanting to make a Frankenstein!

So will that axle work or are they different castings? Looking at some photos on internet the bolster looks identical. Knowing moline I can't beleive they would change tooling since so many years switch parts like our 47 UTS has a 336 bolted in.

I have an adjustable wide front axle that has all J part numbers on it. Years ago I sold it to Stamm but they have never picked it up. I can look at the part numbers again and then figure out whose it is now. If interested?

Nothing from ZA same as R. Zt axle same but bolster and reach as well as steering box all
different part numbers. This is on standards. Universal would be whole nose transplant. ZA
has cast top and bottom for rad.R has one piece rad. Whole front would bolt to motor but
tin wouldn't fit. Basically no.

I have my ZAS and RTU parked side by side. I looked at it and I see no way it could be done. Lots of differences.
