'44 ZTU Won't Idle

Hello all! Well, I managed to get the ZTU running pretty well, but if I go below a half throttle or so - she will die. almost as if someone
cuts off fuel completely. My guess is the idle mixture screw is not adjusted properly. Running a Marvel, TSX 97 carb on it. Someone mentioned
I think in one of my previous posts that the TSX 97 idle mixture is screwed IN to richen, and OUT to lean it out.. Seems counter productive
to me. I just wanted to see if maybe someone had some rough settings they typically start at from bottomed out?

I'll be diving into clutch adjustment on it soon (when the weather warms up), and also cleaning the crankcase and plugged air cleaner and
buttoning up a couple fuel drips. Slowly but surely... I am just happy to have all 6 tractors in one spot at the new home. Some new video
included... Skip to about 11:30 if you want to see only Minneapolis footage.

Most common starting adjustments: turn mixture screw all the way in, then back out idle screw 1 1/2 turns. Sounds like you may have a plugged port. No gas getting through or a vacuum leak also possible. Good luck

if the throttle shaft is loose in the bores it will not idle slow.have the same problem on my U. and yes mixture screw is leaner out. i find 3/4 turn out is where they run the idle best.

Hm. Well, I don't think it is a plugged port. I am pretty meticulous when I go through the carburetors on my tractors. (Not saying it isn't impossible though). I can check for a vacuum leak with some starting fluid or propane... Good idea!

Went through the carb when I picked up the tractor, cleaned thoroughly and rebuilt. Throttle shaft and bore was in real good shape. I'll have to mess around with it when it gets a little warmer here. Just wanted to know where to head when I dive in. Thank you sir!
