Hey there, you're gonna have a little fun here. We do 1 -2 or 3 a month. You have a great parts breakdown there(glad you are getting parts, f.y.i., we stock those parts in a kit for the various applications). Remove the verticle shaft so the ram comes out, replace ALL the seals/O-rings. reassemble according to your manual. With patience it isn't a terrible job. Hope it steers right/left properly when you are done, Have fun!

By the way, Tim just did an M5 this afternoon, and, this leak is not only an MM situation, did a couple red ones recently too. You realize, if it contains oil, it will leak sometime.

Rebuild hydraulics ten times over and WILL always leak! First generation of M5's supported their hydraulic oil company. Oil number 10P---

lol I sure do R.D.F. it along the same line fo "if it has t*ts tires or tracks there's bound to be problems

I used the I&t manual followed the steps for removing the cylinder ram and it worked perfectly as far as steering right and left correctly
when put back together it wasn't all that bad just messy and time consuming

tjv did you have any issues with air locks in the system?

Service bulletin D- 365 is 16 pages " servicing the type E hydraulics on M5 system."
Shows Charlyn valves and power steering.

If I remember correctly when I did my M5 the small gaskets like to roll over
when installing.

thanks for the heads up alan, I was thinking of putting a light film of grease on the o rings and gaskets?

CMF you may want to try Floyd County Museum (In Iowa I think) to see if they have that Service Bulletin and will copy it for you.

thank you shinnery, will see if I can find them online and get in touch with them.

Regular oil from the steering / hydraulic will be fine on the O rings. Grease
may get into the system and plug something. The gaskets are paper if I remember
right and fit in the outside cap. They are quite small is the problem why they
like to turn over.

thanks for the heads up again! I will use hyd oil on the o rings and gaskets, according to the manual the gaskets are leather? will check that out, I haven't opened the package as yet. I still have to get the tractor steam cleaned before I take it apart, I want to get the tractor and power steering as clean as possible before I take anything apart. thank you again alan.
