good evening guys, drained the oil on diff, tranny, and ampltorque, couple of days ago. let it drain overnight came out pretty black but no water, filled with diesel to flush and let sit for 24 hours, rocked the tractor back and forth to slosh it around and then pulled the plugs again, came out black again wondering if I should do another flush tomorrow? plugs are out and it's draining over night, pretty sure that oil has been in there over 30 years could even be more.

I know much of the original oil, in the heavier weights, was originally black. At least for the real old stuff. Not sure what year it got refined more and was the modern color.

i know diesel does not flush out the solids that fall to the bottom . i have used some good clean used hyd. oil for flushing as it has some viscosity to it to carry the solids out. drive tractor around first. on my IH's the drain plug is at the rear so i jack up front end before draining. even if you added some clean used settled out gear oil 50/50 to that diesel it helps. this is what i do anyway.

wish I could drive it around red but tractor still stipped down to change out hyd. hoses, manifold etc. but the drain plug on the m5 is at the lowest point in the diff housing, so I think I will give it another flush, rock it back and forth and drain again. when I filled the diff and tranny and rocked it the first pail was really black and the 2nd. was a bit lighter and last pail was dirty but not to bad.
