U Water pump leaking

Nearly done restoring this U. Having a heck of a time getting this leak to stop. I've put in all new water pump seal, oil seal and brass bushing. Water pump shaft has a slight bit of corrosion, but not enough to leak much, I wouldn't think. I cleaned the nose portion where the seal runs. I can look up the weep hole and see water coming out between the shaft and the bushing.

Do I need a better shaft?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!!

if you have the correct seal and the seal surface is not perfect how will it seal?? cant have corrosion on a seal surface.
post a picture.

The shaft does no sealing. If the shaft is bent, the impeller/seal package will wobble and never seal. If the shaft is true; my next guess is that the #KE5524A housing needs cleaned up. Concentric rings are okay, but one radial groove, or an off perpendicular face will never seal. I suggest a M2 cutter with positive rake. Negative rake cutters never give a good pump seal surface. I find that a five thousandths deep cut will do wonders. Hope you did not put in a brass bushing in the carrier. You need to use the proper #KE525 oilite bearing so the shaft is not wiped.

If you need to swap out the shaft; remember that the #CE505 shaft was made in two flavors. Early shafts were not cut with the distributor drive gear. The later shafts with the gear will work in the older setups without a distributor. When we made new shafts, no one thought about making the early shafts because the later ones did the job of both.
Happy motoring.

i have 3 U's and have not had the water pumps apart and was curious how they are made. cant find a schematic to show whats in there.

I had this problem. Let it run for four or five hours to let things get to know each other and it will seal up. Mine did anyway
